Glynn Rankin

Glynn Rankin is one of the founding architects of the UK Human Trafficking Strategy and is an acknowledged expert in combating human traficking, both in the UK and internationally. He is a barrister, called to the bar, by Middle Temple in 1983, and attained an MBA in 2002. He was a Prosecutor, for over 20 years, holding a number of senior positions with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS),  and was also a founder member of the UK Human Trafficking Centre (UKHTC). He is currently studying for his PhD at the University of Liverpool.

Glynn is an independent expert who provides strategic and practical expertise in the fields of human trafficking, smuggling of migrants (SOM), immigration crime and policy He has experience in working in cross sector multi -disciplinary environments, with a specific focus on combating human trafficking, in all its forms, in the key areas of prevention, protection, prosecution and partnership. Glynn advised on numerous offences of human trafficking in the UK and was responsible for charging the first labour trafficking offence in the UK .

Glynn is a Senior Research Fellow of the University of Liverpool and at Sheffield Hallam University. He is currently a lecturer at Coventry University for whom he devised and delivered the first human trafficking module for post graduate students and lectures on the Masters in International Crime and Justice at the University of Turin. He works in close association with a number of universities on a range of diverse projects including forced labour and corporate social responsibility. 

Glynn's comprehensive anti-trafficking expertise has enabled him to become an university lecturer, trainer, facilitator and evaluator providing 'best practice' expertise in all aspects of human trafficking to the public and private sectors, international agencies, judges, prosecutors and law enforcement agencies, governmental and civil society organisations.

Glynn is an ESRC Peer College Review member and a Steering Group member of CENTRIC. He was a member of the European Commision Group of Experts on Trafficking (2007-11). He was the Chair of the Interpol Working Group on Trafficking (2008-10) and a member of the Joseph Rowntree Trust Advisory Board on Labour Trafficking.
